Som Tam Salad!! Hey there! As we are doing this week with thai cuisine, here is the recipe of som tam salad. For me, thai cuisine is incomplete without som tam salad. The sweet-spicy and tangy taste of this salad make it unique from other salads. The fresh flavors of raw green papaya ad the crunchiness of peanuts make your taste bud satisfied. This is one of the easiest salads but most interesting as well. Every ingredient plays a very specific role in this salad. First, come raw papaya, the freshness of raw papaya made this salad mouth-watering. Whenever you buy raw papaya make sure it should not soft from the center because it will totally destroy your salad.
Ingredients for Som Tam Salad Recipe
- 1 unripe green papaya
- 1 medium carrot peeled
- 11/2 cup cherry tomatoes
- 1/2 cup long beans
- 1/2 cup coriander leaves
- 2 garlic cloves minced
- 1 -2 thai red chili
- 1/4 th cup coarsely crushed peanut
- 1/2 tsp crushed red chili flakes
- 3 tbsp palm sugar
- 5 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 cup shredded purple cabbage for garnish optional
Instructions
- Peel the green skin of papaya and with the help of julienne tools(peeler) to et long thin strings. You can use a box of the grater. Same way grate carrots also.
- Take a mortar put garlic cloves, green chili, and long beans. mash them gently. Now add the sugar, lemon juice, and 4-5 pieces of half cut cherry tomatoes. With the help of pestle mash them gently so that we get a little juicy texture. Make sure you don’t make them very soft just use pestle with soft hands.
- Take a big size salad bowl add juliennes of papaya and carrot, now pour the dressing which we make in mortar on the salad. Sprinkle left peanuts, tomatoes, and coriander leaves.
- In our recipe, we have used purple cabbage for garnishing though it’s optional if you use it will add crunch to your salad.
- Your yummy som tam salad is ready to be relished!
