Ingredients for Lentil Sandwiches Recipe

  • 1/2 cup moong dal split yellow lentil
  • 6 slices white bread
  • 2 green chili
  • 1/2 inch ginger
  • 1 tsp coriander seeds raw dhania
  • 1/2 tsp crushed saunf
  • 1/2 tsp raw mango powder amchoor
  • 1/2 tsp red chili powder
  • a pinch of asafoetida heeng
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp butter melted
  • 1/4 cup water grinding the dal
  • 1/2 tbsp plain flour
  • 1/2 tbsp water

Instructions

  • Wash the moong dal carefully and soak the moong dal in water for 3 to 4 hours. Strain the water out afterward.
  • Take a grinder and add soaked dal, water, green chili, and ginger to it. Grind it on medium speed and make a rough texture paste.
  • Scrap this mixture from the grinder in a medium-sized bowl. Add red chili powder, asafoetida, raw mango powder, fennel seeds, raw coriander seeds, and salt to it. Mix it well.
  • Take a small bowl. Add the plain flour and an equal amount of water to make a paste which we will use to stick the sides of the bread
  • Cut your bread slices in a round shape with the help of the round cutter.
  • Now take a slice of bread, sprinkle some water and roll it with the help of a rolling pin. The bread slice should be thin and big in size.
  • Place around 1tbsp of the dal mixture on the center of the bread. Spread it evenly with the help of the spoon leaving the 1cm edges. Now, fold one edge inwardly covering the dal mixture by at least two centimeters. Overlap the second edge and paste it with the help of a plain flour paste. Repeat the step for the other two sides.
  • Brush your bread with melted butter.
  • Take a non-stick pan and heat it up on the medium flame. Once the pan gets hot, add a little butter and place the bread on it ensuring that the dal side of the bread is facing upwards. Now cook for 2 to 3 minutes and then turn the bread upside down. Cook until the dal gets golden brown at low flame.
  • You can bake your bread in a pre-heated oven at 180 degrees celsius for 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Your sandwiches are ready to be eaten!
