Cheese Zaatar Knots

Hey there! We hope you are well! Today, HK is finally opening up some places like restaurants, tennis courts, and other places! In this post, we will tell you our Zaatar roll recipe but we are adding a slight twist! We will be adding some cheese! Cheese makes everything better! (well, most things)

  • 5 cup plain flour
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 3 tbsp yeast (active)
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 2 cups lukewarm water
  • Now we can start making our cheese zaatar knots!
  • 200 gm cream cheese
  • 1/2 cup zaatar
  • Pizza dough (the one we just made)
  1. First, take 2 cups flour (out of the 5 cups) in a bowl and mix yeast, sugar, salt, and the lukewarm water in it. Mix this mixture well until the mixture gets a little thick (liquidy but thick, kind of like cake batter) and then cover it for 15 minutes.
  2. After 15 minutes, take the cover off and add the oil and the rest of the flour (3 cups) in the mixture and knead it well. Cover the dough again and place it in a warm temperature for 1 hour.
  3. After an hour, you will see that the dough has risen. Take off the cover and now we need to start making some balls out of the dough (each ball should be around the size of a table tennis ball) You should make around 16-18 balls.
  4. Now but your balls on a baking tray and cover them with a cling wrap and let them rest for 30 minutes.
  5. Your dough is now ready!
  6. Take the balls that you made before out of the baking tray and with the help of a rolling pin flatten all of them one at a time into circles. They don’t have to be perfect but make sure they are not too thick or not too thin. (3mm)
  7. Now spread cream cheese around your circles and put some zaatar as well. Spread it around with gentle hands and start rolling them like wraps.
  8. Now use a pizza cutter and cut all of your “rolls” into half.
  9. (This part is slightly difficult to explain!) What you want to do is start making knots out of your rolls so take the two halves of a roll and start making knots.
  10. Once your rolls are ready to place them on a baking tray and cover the tray with cling wrap and let it rest for 30 minutes.
  11. Preheat your oven at 180 degrees Celcius.
  12. After 30 minutes, take off the cling wrap and put your baking tray in the oven for 20 – 25 minutes and your knots are ready!
